Bribie Island is Australia's next big thing and you're missing out

Just an hour from Brisbane, the island delivers the best of both worlds – calm, crystal-clear waters along the sheltered Pumicestone Passage and surf beaches stretching along the ocean side. Visitors can spend their days swimming, kayaking or fishing in tranquil shallows, then head to the surf side for long sandy beaches, beach driving and wildlife spotting.

Much of the island remains protected national park – giving it a laid-back, nature-first feel that’s increasingly rare so close to a capital city. Add fresh seafood, local cafés and plenty of outdoor adventure, from 4WD tracks to birdwatching and dolphin sightings, and it’s easy to see why travellers are calling this underrated destination Australia’s next big thing.
