The day-use area for Forgan Cove is open to visitors from 5:30 am – 6:30 pm in those warmer months from September to April. For the shorter daylight hours from May to August, it is open to the public from 6:00 am to 5:30 pm.

In this area, 135 species of bird have been spotted including the Yellow-faced Honeyeater, Silvereye, Australian Pelican and more. Located at the North Pine Dam on Lake Samsonvale, the lake has provided urban water to the surrounding region for more than forty years. Forgan Cove is the perfect spot to peacefully fish for Australian bass, silver perch, red claw crayfish and more. However, a fishing permit is required in order to fish along this recreational area of Lake Samsonvale. Don’t be discouraged though as you can obtain a permit from the Samsonvale Water Sports Association or the Pine Rivers Fish Management Association.

There is a popular trail path that starts at the Bullocky Rest Day Use Area that finishes at Forgan Cove. On your walk along this path, you will become captivated by the beautiful views of Lake Samsonvale and the natural beauty of the surrounding bush. The intermediate walking path has a 4.2-kilometre walking distance and takes about an hour and a half to complete. Once you finish your walk and arrive at Forgan Cove, the designated picnic area is a great spot to kick up your feet and take a rest.
