Great for fishing, boating and swimming enthusiasts, many of these Moreton Bay camping spots are close to boat ramps, jetties, marshlands and Pumicestone Passage – the protected channel called home by wildlife including seabirds, dolphins, dugongs and turtles:

#1 Ocean Beach Bribie Island

Accessible by 4WD only, you can experience some proper beachside camping behind the dunes on the ocean side of the island within the large, 63-capacity campground (Bribie’s largest camping area) ideal for tent or walk-in camping, camper trailers and large groups. Enjoy a spot of fishing, or swimming, amongst other water, or beach activities.

Facilities: Cold showers, micro-flush toilets and fire rings

#2 Gallagher Point

Located on the western side of the island offering views over Pumicestone Passage towards the Glasshouse Mountains and Toorbul. Gallagher Point is accessible only by 4WD, it offers a limited number of bush camping sites, for small campervans, caravans and camper trailers (sites are more suitable for tent camping).

No toilets or other facilities provided. Campers are encouraged to bring self-contained portable toilets.

#3 Poverty Creek

On the western side of Bribie, this isolated bush camping near Brisbane hotspot is accessible by boat or 4WD. It sports an adjoining picnic area overlooking Pumicestone Passage with views of the Glass House Mountains and Donnybrook. This large camping area has open grassy sites and shade trees great for tent camping, as well as sites to accommodate larger camper trailers and group camping set-ups.

Facilities: Toilets, screened cold showers, water taps, picnic tables and fireplaces.

#4 Mission Point

If you’re asking Google: ‘where is the most isolated campsite near me located?’ look no further than Mission Point, or Lime Pocket camping spots. Both are only accessible by boat. Mission Point is equipped with campsites, toilets, a screen cold shower, water tap, picnic tables and fire rings available for use. Tent camping only.

#5 Lime Pocket

The small Lime Pocket campground is only accessible by boat and is also located on the western side of the island. No facilities aside from fire rings are provided. Tent camping only.

Don’t Forget! Things to remember before you leave.

Purchase your Moreton Bay camping permit and vehicle access permit before you head off.

Make sure you’re camping trip is problem-free – do further research on which parks and forests allow motorhomes, campervans, caravans and camper trailers, take note of the camping fees, where you can use a generator and usage rules, and check up on fire bans and where you can enjoy a campfire, fuel stove, or BBQ cook-up.
